Interview With Target User
Interview with: Ben Kititski, Dania Beach Marina, Dock manager
Can you walk me through your typical day at the marina?
“I start by walking around the docks, carefully inspecting the area to make sure everything is in proper order. I check for any potential issues like loose equipment, structural concerns, or anything that might need immediate attention. Once I know everything is running smoothly, I make my way around to assist others with any tasks they may need help with, whether it's handling equipment, organizing supplies, or troubleshooting minor problems. After that, I take a break for lunch. In the afternoon I focus on supplying fuel, making sure that everything is stocked and ready for use.”
How do you currently power your dock and equipment?
"Our docks rely on traditional electrical hookups for lighting and equipment”
Do you have a floating dock, or is your dock fixed?
"We use floating pile docks with 92 concrete slips."
How expensive is your current power setup? Would you be interested in a cheaper alternative?
"Energy costs is one of the bigger expenses for the marina. A cheaper solution would be great."
Would a self-sustaining energy source make your job easier?
"I'm not so sure for my specific job."
If you could generate extra electricity, would you be interested in selling it back to boat owners or the grid?
"That would be a good opportunity. It could create an additional revenue stream for the marina."
Do you think marina owners would be interested in an additional revenue stream from selling renewable energy?
"Many marina owners would love to give electricity back to the grid , especially if it supports sustainability efforts."
